Welcome to Branding by MH!
Hi everyone! I'm Melissa, Owner and Creative Director for Branding by MH! You may have saw my intro post on social media (which happened to be on International Women's Day, woot woot!), but here's a little recap and an intro to this company - I'm bringing a new concept to branding agencies and small businesses!
First of all, if you haven't read my About MH page on the backend of my career and story, you probably should 😉 This blog post is going to be more about who I will be servicing and the reasoning behind this company's structure and culture. So let's jump right in, shall we?!
As you probably have read (or already know), I own 2 other companies - MH Event Consulting and MH Style Consulting. The events company used to be full-time event planning for weddings, lifestyle events, corporate events, nonprofit events as well as productions like your art shows, fashion shows, etc. Before Covid, I saw the market changing and then WITH Covid it just sped things up; now I offer event and venue consulting (one of few Venue Consultants here in the upper Midwest). Then there's my styling company. Over there, I offer personal styling, interior decorating (for homes, commercial spaces as well as offices), retail consulting, merchandising, product styling and photo shoots as well as events such as workshops and speaking engagements (fun fact: I LOVE speaking engagements). As you probably can tell by now, entrepreneurship has always been in my blood.
With over 17 years of experience in the fashion and events industry, it allowed me to dabble in A LOT: Business development, management, marketing, sales, branding, you name it! In addition to, for the majority of my career I have always been a contractor so all in all, I know the in's and out's of being an entrepreneur - or should I say, THINKING like an entrepreneur. I value this type of lifestyle and it has always been something that I've taught whether it was within my internship programs, staff, etc. Overall, being a contractor was a great stepping stone for preparing me to be a business owner. If I didn't have the experience that I do, there's no way that I would own 3 companies right now. This is exactly why I wanted to create a company to help small businesses in industries I literally know, AND love! Working with business owners whether it was a venue or a small corporate company on my event side of things or it was an entrepreneur through my styling company trying to accomplish "looking the part", I've always enjoyed working with businesses. Now let's speed it up to present time....
When Covid hit and all of us small business owners networked to try to figure this shit out, I thought of a concept. What's wrong with having a company that has contractors who own their own small businesses? It's an extra outlet of income for them PLUS, advertising-wise, it's extra marketing and SEO for them. So here we are, a branding agency that outsources some of their services to other small businesses. I mean, I'm even doing it for myself too!
Over at MH Event Consulting, I work with venues who are just breaking ground, revamping their space or are converting their space to also host events to gain some extra income. As a Venue Consultant, I offer services such as the layout and design, interior decorating, day to day operations, sales and package creation, staffing and management, etc. Jumping over to MH Style Consulting, I style all shapes, sizes, budgets and genders. This is the company where I plan to create jobs because quite honestly, there aren't a lot of jobs out there for personal stylists and interior decorators unless you own your own business. So although my favorite clients to work with are entrepreneurs, I can't advertise it 100% of the time because I already have a stylist that caters to other types of clients and then you add a team of virtual stylists on top of that. It just doesn't work. I still want to cater to everyone because my stylists will all be different. Anywho, my point to this is that I created Branding by MH so I had my own SEO and marketing aimed at my favorite people - entrepreneurs! Now you sprinkle in those in-house events and workshops where I'm teaching people everything I know, that's the cherry on the top!
Branding by MH is here to cater to small businesses because we ARE a team of small businesses! I chose the services that I did because, again, throughout my career I realized that branding is much more than digital branding. It's the way you talk, present yourself, the experience you give to clients, it's the look and feel of your lobby or office, the backdrop for your Zoom call or YouTube video, it's the way you dress, I could go on and on! Your brand is the full image, it doesn't just stop at your website and imagery on your Instagram feed. Think about your PR for example, does your media presence and outreach match your brand? How about your marketing efforts?
Now jumping into the industries I service. I'm choosing to work with anyone in fashion, anyone in events, anyone in the art field, vacation rentals, bloggers and the hospitality industry because those are industries I know like the back of my hand! And did I mention that I LOVE these industries?! These are the industries that are more important than ever because they ARE the service industry. They thrive on the experience they give to guests and clients otherwise they'll go out of business! I really don't think I need to say more, right? 😉
So there you have it guys, a branding agency that's taking branding beyond just digital. A branding agency that's "employing" other small businesses so they can grow. A branding agency that caters to everything creative and that's a small business because WE'RE creatives and small businesses ourselves.
